2008 National SCRABBLE Championship

May 02, 2009

Congratulations to Nigel Richards winner of the 2008 National SCRABBLE Championship. Nigel finished with an overall record of 22-6 with at +1340 point spread. The NSA's promotional efforts in getting more students to play our game seems to be gaining steam, if this year's National Championship is any indication. Division 1 saw Sam Rosin, who is only 15, finish in the top 20, while entering college freshman Nigel Peltier cracked the top 10 (7th!). In Division 2, 18-year-old Conrad Bassett- Bouchard won handily, though he had to beat fellow youth John Stardom three out of five games. Division 4 was hard-fought between two more students, Stephen Sneed, 14, and Phil Wertheimer, 17, who finished 1st and 2nd, respectively. Division 3 was won by the only female Thai player among a handful of diehard Thai who compete in each NSC, Piengkamol Intarasuwan, 19, who has been living and going to school in Florida for two years. And finally, Division 6's Bradley Robbins (NH) broke new ground by being the youngest Division winner ever at a National Championship. 11 year old Bradley only recently played in the National School SCRABBLE Championship in May. Congrats to everyone who participated!"
