Family gatherings are a great opportunity to share memories - and create fun new ones. Check out these five easy ways to make your next family get-together especially memorable.
Take turns choosing one person to be the leader. This person is the only one allowed to speak. The leader calls out a category such as "height," then everyone (except the leader) lines up in order as quickly as possible - without talking! Categories can be simple at first, like height, age, or distance traveled. Then try more complicated categories, like hat size, fewest cavities, or loudest laugh. For an extra level of complexity, impose a time limit and award points or prizes for each successful lineup!
Write everyone's names on pieces of paper and put them in a bowl (or a jar or a hat). Each person draws a name and writes three things they like about that person. (Pick another if you pick yourself.) Take turns reading the three things out loud, and see if others can guess who it is.
Choose an object to hide somewhere in the room. One person steps out while everybody else agrees on a hiding place for the object. When the person who is "it" returns, everyone sings a children's song ("Mary Had a Little Lamb," for instance), singing louder for "getting warmer" or quieter for "getting colder." For advanced players, choose a task that the player must complete, such as turning off a light. Sing louder as they approach the light switch, louder still if they touch it, and break into a cheer when they turn the light off!
Divide into groups of two or three. Play an old home video with the sound off and have each group take turns making up new dialogue - as the film is playing - for what appears on screen. Each turn should last about a minute. Players in your group take turns dubbing the dialogue, with each team member providing the voice for the same character throughout.
Choose one person to be "it." That person leaves the room while everybody else chooses a famous person (real or imaginary) that the "it" will be. When the person returns, they can ask only yes or no questions (Do I wear a beard? Am I on TV?) to figure out what famous person they are. Take turns and see who can guess the fastest.
