Q: Why can I not get my vehicle started. NITRO XRC™

NITRO XRC™ Expert Tip: If you have followed all the steps in the manual and your vehicle is still not starting, try revving the engine lightly during the starting process. Slowly and gently pull the speed trigger on the controller while using the electric starter to start your vehicle. If this does not help to get your vehicle started, please see the following troubleshooting options.

A: Please check your vehicle and see if it is having any of the following problems:

Locate the fuel line running from the fuel tank to the engine. If you do not see fuel in the line, your engine has not been properly primed (there is not enough fuel getting to the engine). Please follow the steps in the Starting Your Vehicle section of the instruction manual to successfully prime your engine. (NITRO REVOLUTION MT™ manual – Page 17; RICOCHET™ manual – Page 19).

NITRO XRC™ Expert Tip: If the electric starter is jamming when you are attempting to start the vehicle, your engine has flooded most likely due to over-priming (too much fuel in the engine). Turn your vehicle on its side (with the exhaust tube on the bottom) to help the excess fuel in the engine drain out through the exhaust pipe and attempt to start your vehicle without priming.

Ensure the Glow Plug Igniter has been locked into place on the vehicle with a quarter turn clockwise. If the red light on the top of the glow plug igniter does not light up while the igniter is properly attached to the vehicle and you have the trigger pulled on the electric starter, then glow plug in the vehicle needs to be replaced. Click here to view how to replace the Glow Plug.

If the Electric Starter isn’t turning fast enough, charge the Electric Starter battery and try again.

You are pushing the Electric Starter into the engine too hard. Try gently inserting the Electric Starter into the engine just until it is seated in the Starter Hole. Push into the engine only with enough force to hold it in place as you press the trigger. Click here for details on using the Electric Starter/Glow Plug Igniter.

Remove your Air Filter so that you can see your Air Intake. Make sure the Air Intake is properly adjusted using the Idle Adjuster on your Controller.

Your fuel adjuster may not properly be set. Reset the Fuel Adjuster to the factory setting.

Check to ensure the exhaust pipe on the vehicle is unplugged.

The Air Filter is wet. Remove it, squeeze it out and allow it to dry.

If it is cold out, try moving your vehicle and fuel indoors or to another warm location for about 30 minutes.

If none of the above solutions have worked, please call the NITRO XRC™ specialists at 1-888-RACE-XRC (1-888-722-3972) for assistance.

Q: Why is my vehicle running slow?

NITRO XRC™ Expert Tip: Right out of the box, your NITRO XRC™ vehicle needs to broken in and will not reach its top speed potential until a few tanks have been run through the vehicle. Please drive slowly for the first few tanks. If this problem continues to occur, please refer to the information below or call 1-888-RACE-XRC for assistance.

A: First, make sure all your batteries are installed correctly in the Controller and Vehicle.

Next, try turning your Fuel Adjuster 1/8 turn clockwise. Drive your vehicle for about 30 seconds after each turn. If your vehicle runs worse after a couple turns, return the Fuel Adjuster to its original position and try the next solution. Don't turn it more than 3 or 4 increments; turning the Fuel Adjuster too far clockwise can cause your engine to overheat! Click here for details on setting your Fuel Adjuster.

If that doesn't work, resent your Fuel Adjuster to its original location. Then, remove the Air Filter and check the Air Intake to make sure this crescent shape is visible. If it's not, you need to adjust your Air Intake. (See videos below).

Q: Why does my vehicle suddenly stall or stop running?

A: First, check to make sure you still have fuel in your tank.

If your vehicle has fuel, check to see if you're having any of these problems:

If your vehicle is new and you've gone through less than 5 tanks of fuel, try restarting and driving slowly (with the trigger never more than half depressed) for the first few tanks of fuel.

If this was your first start of the day, try, driving slowly for a couple minutes to let the engine warm up.

If none of the above quick solutions work, try these solutions in order. Click the links for more detailed instructions.

Remove your Air Filter so that you can see your Air Intake. Make sure the Air Intake is properly adjusted using the Idle Adjuster on your Controller. View Video for NITRO REVOLUTION MT™ Air Intake adjustment.

Reset the Fuel Adjuster to the factory setting. Click here for details on setting the Fuel Adjuster.

Q: Why does my Electric Starter jam when I try to start the engine?

A: There is too much fuel in the engine, probably from over-priming. This is a condition known as having a "flooded engine." Turn your vehicle on its side (with the exhaust tube on the bottom) to help the excess fuel in the engine drain out through the exhaust pipe . NITRO XRC™ Expert Tip: Once your vehicle has had several minutes to cool down, you can safely remove the glow plug in order to drain excess fuel from the engine. First, remove the glow plug by using the glow plug wrench and turn the vehicle upside-down, allowing the fuel to drain directly from the engine block. Always make sure you are taking proper precautions when draining fuel from your vehicle. Once finished, reattach the glow plug to the engine block.

Q: Why does my vehicle seem to be running rough?

A: Try removing and cleaning your Air Filter. See instruction manual for details.

If that doesn't work, your Fuel Adjuster may be set incorrectly. Reset the Fuel Adjuster to the factory setting. Click here for details on setting the Fuel Adjuster.

Q: Why does my vehicle stall or stop running as soon as I removed the Glow Plug Igniter?

A: If it's cold out, or this is the first time you're starting today, try restarting the vehicle, and leave the Glow Plug Igniter attached for about 10 seconds after the engine starts running. If that doesn't work, check to ensure the glow plug in the vehicle is still working (The glow plug is functioning properly if the red light is lit on the Glow Plug Igniter during the starting process) and replace it if necessary.

Q: Why is my vehicle is hard to control?

A: First, make sure that the color of the Frequency Crystals in your Controller and Vehicle are the same. Next, check to make sure that you are using fresh batteries. If your batteries are fresh and your Frequency Crystals match, it may mean there is a conflict between the frequency of your Controller and Vehicle and another NITRO XRC™ or other RC vehicle. You should purchase new Frequency Crystals and change the frequency of your Controller and Vehicle.

Q: Why has my Fuel Adjuster screw come out?

A: It has been unscrewed too far. Place it back in the hole and apply light downward pressure while turning clockwise. Once it stays in the hole on its own, lessen the pressure and screw it in normally. Return the Fuel Adjuster to its factory setting, and then readjust for your driving conditions. Click here for details on replacing and setting the fuel adjuster.

Q: Why is there no smoke coming from my exhaust?

A: Your Fuel Adjuster is screwed in too far. Turn the Fuel Adjuster counter-clockwise in 1/8 turns until you see smoke coming out of the exhaust. Click here for details on setting the Fuel Adjuster.

Q: Why doesn't my vehicle stop when I pull the trigger forward to apply the brakes?

A: You may have the Idle Adjuster set incorrectly. Try turning the dial on the controller slowly counter-clockwise until the vehicle does not move when the trigger is released, and the engine idles at a low rate.

If that doesn't work, your brake linkage may be out of alignment. Please call the NITRO XRC™ specialists at 1-888-RACE-XRC (1-888-722-3972) for assistance.

Q: Why won't my vehicle go in reverse?

A: The NITRO REVOLUTION MT™ vehicle does not have a reverse system built into the vehicle. If you do attempt to use a RICOCHET™ controller in conjunction with the Nitro Revolution MT™, the reverse button will not function.

For the RICOCHET™, be sure to follow the steps exactly from the instruction manual. Ensure you are pressing the throttle trigger forward, holding for 5 seconds, and then switching the reverse button towards you. If you have the switch in the reverse position (towards the back of the controller) and the vehicle still drives forward when you pull the throttle to accelerate, return the reverse switch to the forward position and start the process over.
