Product safety is a top priority for Hasbro. Hasbro stands behind every product it makes and takes product safety very seriously. Our product safety and quality assurance systems are based on a comprehensive and stringent review process at every stage of product development. Products bearing any one of our brands are reviewed from the design stage to the point where they are ready for shipment to the store shelves. All Hasbro products are produced in factories that have been pre-qualified to ensure quality management systems are in place. We require that our products meet not only our own stringent internal standards but also all applicable national and international standards.
All Hasbro product is reviewed by Hasbro’s Quality Assurance Reliability Engineers in the development stage and safety and reliability specifications are issued and a test plan for each product is required (“Test Plan”). The Test Plan specifies all design and manufacturing criteria that the product must meet. These criteria meet and in many instances exceed federal and voluntary requirements. These specifications also include labeling and any warnings required on the packaging, the product, or the instructions.
Prior to manufacturing new product, samples must be tested by Hasbro’s Quality Assurance Department to ensure compliance with the Test Plan and its safety and reliability requirements. Once initial manufacturing begins, further sampling of product is taken and resubmitted for testing to again ensure compliance with the Test Plan. Following production, there are also regular sample audits made periodically throughout each shift by both factory and Hasbro Quality Assurance personnel. Testing by independent outside labs is also used as part of the quality assurance process. No product can be shipped until testing is complete to the satisfaction of Hasbro’s Quality Assurance Department.
Following production and sale of our finished products, our quality control and product safety diligence continues in a variety of ways: routine monitoring of the effectiveness of our product safety and quality assurance process as well as reviewing and analyzing any retailer and consumer feedback. We have a system in place that allows us to respond promptly and appropriately to any new information that has developed concerning any one of our products. Our internal operating procedures are designed to ensure compliance with applicable product safety regulations and laws, including those enforced by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). Whenever we learn that we may have an issue either with the design or manufacturing of our products, we investigate the situation immediately and thoroughly, to determine whether in fact a safety issue exists. If such a determination is made, we take prompt action – working with the CPSC and, where applicable, other regulatory bodies around the world – to ensure that consumers are advised and appropriate steps are taken. In the event that Hasbro determines a corrective action or recall is necessary, such action is implemented in a manner which is designed to protect our consumers.
At the same time, we are constantly seeking continuous improvement in our quality assurance and safety processes. Hasbro recognizes its responsibility not only to make products in compliance with applicable laws, regulations and its own standards, but also to support the industry and regulatory process. We participate in and aid both regulatory and voluntary standards development and education in the United States and abroad. Hasbro sits on both ASTM and ANSI committees for toy and related product standards and participates in, and often chairs, relevant work groups.
