HASBRO TAKES WORD-SMITHING TO HIGHER LEVELS WITH NEW WORD GAMES IN 2010
Two New Games, SCRABBLE FLASH and NAB-IT, Join the Word Game Category
EAST LONGMEADOW, MASS. (February 12, 2009) – Can you nab the right word in a flash? For those who can see a myriad of words amidst a random collection of letters, this Fall brings new opportunities for experienced and aspiring word gamers to put their skills to the test. Hasbro, who has long been a leader in the word game industry with games including SCRABBLE, UPWORDS, BOGGLE and the new card game SCRABBLE SLAM, announces two new exciting word games, SCRABBLE FLASH and NAB-IT!.
SCRABBLE FLASH provides a fast, frantic and addictive play experience unlike any other using an innovative new technology. Installed with ‘Smart Tile Technology’ the five letter tiles recognize formed words when the tiles are placed side by side and light up to indicate a completed word. Played by one player, SCRABBLE FLASH keeps time and score as competitors slide, move and shuffle electronic cubed letter tiles in a race to create as many 3-to-5 letter words as possible in 60 seconds.
“Hasbro is excited to introduce SCRABBLE FLASH because it offers a truly innovative way to play a word game,” said Phillip Jackson, Group Executive of Games at Hasbro. “We saw how well people responded to the quick pace of SCRABBLE SLAM and wanted to offer a similar quick-thinking word game experience that can be played by one player.”
For a more leisurely word game experience, Hasbro introduces NAB-IT!, which rewards players for building and stealing words in a game the whole family can enjoy together. Any surface can become a board game as families gather to build words up and out in this interactive crossword game. The casual and competitive gamer are on equal footing with NAB-IT because every word is worth just one point. Cat and zeugma, ball and jejune all earn one point each for the player who has the highest or most tiles in the word. Since players can stack on top of existing words, points are not counted until the end of the game to determine the winner.
“NAB-IT! brings families together, no matter skill level, to take part in word game culture,” Jackson said. “Both SCRABBLE FLASH and NAB-IT! illustrate Hasbro’s continued innovation in word games through technology and creative design to create two entirely new game experiences. For years, Hasbro has led the word game category and these games ensure that families of all sizes will continue enjoying the fun and art of word games.”
Both games will be available this Fall at mass retailers nationwide and are recommended for ages 8 and up. SCRABBLE FLASH, a one player game, will be available for the approximate retail of $29.99, while NAB-IT!, recommended for two or more players, will retail for the approximate price of $19.99.
