10,000 children to perform with RI Philharmonic in six concerts at Vets Philharmonic/ Carnegie Hall’s Link Up program caps a year of music education
April 8, 2013 - 10,000 students across Rhode Island and Massachusetts performed alongside the RI Philharmonic at Veteran’s Memorial Auditorium in Providence this past week. These interactive concerts, which were originally developed by Carnegie Hall’s Weill Music Institute, are the culmination of a year of school-based music education through the Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra and Music School’s FLEX program (Foundations in Learning Exploration).
Thanks to a grant from the Hasbro Children’s Fund, Pawtucket became the first Rhode Island public school district where 100% of third, fourth and fifth grade students participated in the program - 2,200 students in all. This is now the second year Hasbro has supported this innovative take on music class.
Special thanks to all of the Team Hasbro volunteers who helped to manage and usher all these kids at each of these concerts!
